More than a hundred nations supporting the Syrian opposition have urged tougher action by the UN against President Bashar al Assad. At a meeting in Paris, the US and its allies called for Chapter 7 of the UN Charter to be enacted, allowing economic sanctions, and if necessary, military intervention in Syria. And as Gayane Chichakyan explains, the West's backing of the Syrian rebels has echoes of another conflict.
