Volcano eruption hits airlines harder than 9/11

The crisis that closed much of European airspace for five days is showing signs of easing. The volcano in Iceland has caused widespread economic disruption across the continent. In particular, airlines have suffered major losses as planes and passengers have been stranded on the ground.
