Inquiry confirms CIA had secret jails in Lithuania

RussiaToday
December 22, 2009
An inquiry by the government reveals the country provided the CIA with at least two detention centers on its territory. This follows media reports that Lithuanian may have been involved in the U.S. extraordinary rendition program. The parliamentary committee found that between 2002 -2005 the U.S. agency's planes were allowed to land in Lithuania. But the panel said it had found no evidence that suspects were interrogated on Lithuanian soil. Adding to the controversy was the former Lithuanian leader Rolandas Paksas who said it was his refusal to set up detention centres for the CIA that led to his impeachment in 2004.
