In an unprecedented move by any Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Shalom Bernanke flew to Kansas City, Missouri, and took questions from ordinary (vetted and pre-screened?), struggling Americans at a town-hall style forum, Sunday 26 July 2009, moderated by PBS NewsHour anchor Jim Lehrer.

Here, Bernanke explains what the Federal Reserve is and what it does, the importance of Fed "independence" He declares, "I am answerable to the American people."
