Arar hits Time's 100 most influential list

TORONTO — Maher Arar has been named on Time Magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Mr. Arar came in at number 58, ranking alongside the likes of the Queen, Raul Castro, Warren Buffett and Tyra Banks.

He is listed under “Heroes and Pioneers,” after Chinese baseballer Chien-Ming Wang and before French soccer legend Thierry Henry.

Mr. Arar, 36, was jailed and tortured for 10 months before being released. A public inquiry later exonerated Mr. Arar, leading to a $10.5-million compensation package. continue →
